Our core business always was and still is shiprepair and conversion. Most of our business is conducted in China, where we have been active since 1992. China accounts for around 80% of our annual shiprepair/conversion turnover , by far the largest portion. We are also active and excusively represent shipyards in Hong Kong, the Black Sea, Med region, Thailand, Panama, Kuwait, US East coast and Europe.
In China yards do not offer agents exclusive agreements, partly because the Chinese are extremely competitive by nature and also because they believe that the greek market is so large it is not possible for one agent to cover the entire territory.
We have thus built up very close, long-term and constructive cooperations with the best shiprepair yards in China. This has been a slow process which has taken years of commitment and hard work, a combination of strong interpersonal relationships with the senior management of these yards as well as a concentrated team effort to ensure each repair project undertaken is a success both for our greek customers as well as the Yards we represent.
Our real job begins after we receive a firm booking, especially during the vessel’s repair at the yard, where key milestones are monitored as well as overall progress, maintaining agreed schedules, docking dates, sufficient labor for prompt execution of works etc. During this period regular contact with the attending supt eng as well as the head office is maintained. Monitoring and expediting work progress is greatly assisted by our Chinese-speaking staff who deal with working level yard staff (eg ship repair manager, deck engineer etc), whilst we also keep contact with senior yard management as and when their intervention is required.
Newbuilding & Contracting
We have developed our Newbuilding activity aggressively over the past 3 years, mainly in China where we have a permanent association with a well established brokerage house – Pentalink – who assist with securing off-market opportunities as well as due diligence with new yards and contract negotiation.
We have recently been involved in contracting for 80,000 DWT bulkers, 32,500 DWT handy bulkers and 22,000 DWT IMO II chemical tankers for greek owners. We are also active in the Russian and Turkish newbuilding markets, where we still see opportunities exist.
Marine Equipment
This activity is handled by our subsidiary JNE Marine Ltd and headed by my partner Nikos Theodorou. We deal with mainly trading of new main engine components from reliable/proven makers-stockists, turbocharger spares, anchor chain/anchors, lifeboats/liferafts and china license-built equipment. In addition we are exclusive agents for a number of quality marine equipment makers, such a Mitsubishi MKK purifiers, Cygnus Ultrasonic gauges, Strainstall stress gauges and others.
Tank Cleaning
We are exclusive agents of Haitong Ltd, the largest de-mugging and tank cleaning workshop in China. We have completed many tank-cleaning projects, as well as for VLCC’s, with main emphasis on competitive rates but most importantly thorough job and short period due to extensive workforce committed to this activity.
We have recently set up similar arrangements with workshops in North and South to give our customers a wider range of facilities, but still concentrate on Haitong (Zhoushan region) for the larger jobs.
We can provide the following services for our customers:
